About us

We are brave and a little crazy;

we are sweet strawberries picked when ripe and mulberry;

we are cliffs and cormorants;

we are homemade bread cooked in a wood-fired oven, schiaccia ‘briaca cake the way it used to be made, farmer’s ice cream and myrtle liqueur;

we are fruit and vegetables full of vitamins and in a good mood;

we are sea breezes and cork oaks knolls, sea daffodils in the dunes and pollinating bumblebees;

we are warm October days, farmers and thinkers, Aleatico wine and spelt;

we are real olive oil and yellow broom, toasted bread in September, almond milk and pappa col pomodoro;

we are lime plasters and accordion notes, meadows of Posidonia and kayaking on saltwater;

we are biking and glamping, artichokes, sunflowers and winter green manure;

we are warm soil underfoot and Mediterranean breezes drunk with sclerophyll oils;

we are hugs with panoramic views of the archipelago and exciting sunsets over the whale sanctuary, a crossroads for trekking and diving;

we are starry skies that you can still see and fireflies in May;

we are poppies swaying in the mistral winds and hedgehogs that remove the snails from the vegetable gardens;

we are an opportunity to have a different type of holiday: forget stressful noises, immerse yourself in true nature, the one that you live by getting your hands dirty in the vegetable garden, letting yourself be carried away by the smell of the sea, falling asleep in the pinewood, curling up in a hammock.

We are unexpected…

THE ORGANIC FARM MARRIED TO THE SEA

Orti di Mare is a farm tourism complex on the Isle of Elba which offers hospitality in a quiet and friendly context, just a few metres from Lacona beach, one of the longest and finest sandy beaches of the island. Lacona is an ideal destination for nature lovers, in and out of the water: it is part of the Tuscan Archipelago National Park, surrounded by Europe’s largest marine reserve and the Whale Sanctuary.

The location is spectacular (gently rolling hills as a backdrop and the shallow sea shore in front) and easy to reach from Portoferraio – 15 minutes by car.

The managers, Britta and Vittorio, love to share with their guests the beauty of this land which they have decided to cultivate, respect and make known.

The Campsite, surrounded by greenery, is an integral part of the Farm. It’s located on a gentle hill overlooking the sea. The Beach can be accessed in 5 minutes by foot via a path though the pine trees.

Large shady spaces underneath the pine trees or pergolas, room for tents and motorhomes, equipped with electricity, toilets, free wi-fi.

As an alternative to the Camping site, motorhomes can park in the Motorhome Low-cost area: pitches with electricity, water unloading and loading. No toilets and no showers. Lacona beach can be reached in about 7/8 minutes on foot.

An opportunity to experience camping without giving up comfort, our Glamping Tents have a kitchen and a bathroom and are equipped with all one might need.

Located in the green heart of Orti di Mare and a stone’s throw away from Lacona beach, our Apartments are modern and come with all the amenities.

Located at the centre of the mansion Orti di Mare, the Rural Restaurant and Market-Café offers a beautiful view of the the countryside and the hills of Lacona. From mid-April to mid-October, it is open all day long, from Monday to Sunday.

In this simple, outdoor sitting room, shaded by large pergolas and surrounded by olive trees, you can enjoy tasty, genuine, healthy dishes of the local tradition, including vegan ones, prepared with whole ingredients and plenty of vegetables. Our original range of quality desserts and farmer ice creams is renowned for the refinement and selection or raw ingredients.

The Convivium is enriched by a reading lounge with library, a dance floor a playground for kids and a relax area with solarium, equipped with sun loungers, and an info point dense with photographs and descriptions of the flora, minerals, environments, sea and other aspects of Elba Island, and in-depth information about the Estate and its natural environment.

here we are

BRITTA STOLK

A German, from Hamburg Britta has lived on Elba for the past seven years.

After working for many years for major organic farms in northern Germany, she brought all her affections and professionalism to the little world of Orti di Mare.

She makes our bread, cakes, biscuits, jams and pickles, on sale in the estate’s market café.

Young, dynamic and creative, Britta contributes a note of elegance and care to each of the farm activities.

VITTORIO RIGOLI

The founder of the Orti di Mare estate, Vittorio hails from Milano. A childhood spent in the Como countryside, in Liguria and in Maremma brought him into touch with the farming world which he has never since left. Preservation of nature, bio-diversity, a thorough knowledge of ecosystems and sustainable farming methods are the interests he has tenaciously followed in what is his most important project, the Orti di Mare estate.

Vittorio is kind and restrained, but at the same time tenacious and meticulous, an entrepreneur able to capture contemporary trends without ever forgetting traditions and the very slow pace of the farming world.

MARCO VACCA

Vittorio’s friend and collaborator, Marco comes from Sardinia.

Every year, starting in the early winter months, Marco supervises estate activities: care for the land, fertilizing, mulching, pruning, sowing, maintenance jobs and a thousand other tasks on the farm and garaging.

A hard-working factotum and precious consultant, Marco has chosen to cooperate in Orti di Mare because he shares the organic philosophy of Vittorio and Britta.

The Orti di Mare estate owes a lot to his intelligence and manual skills.

CLAUDIA LANZONI

Freelance journalist and communicator, born in Milan and raised in Parma, she has lived stably on the Isle of Elba with her family for many years.

After an experience in institutional communication, she now writes and is involved in educational projects centred on the promotion of nature and culture.

After meeting Vittorio, she decided to team up with him. Like him, she loves to live slow in contact with the simple and overwhelming beauty of Elba.

Thanks to her innate vocation for web 2.0, Claudia recounts Orti di Mare on all digital media with great passion and success.
